  • Little rock nine

    the little rock 9 was a group of black girls who were enrolled in a formerly all-white school. The governor called in the Arkansas national guard to protest this but the president had sent federal troops to escort the girls
  • Brown vs. The board of education

    Linda Brown, a black girl, was denied admission to her neighborhood school because she was black and was told to attend an all-black school. Her parents sued the school board. The supreme court ruled it unconstitutional to segregate schools.
  • Montgomery bus boycott

    Initiated by Rosa Park's arrest, the Montgomery bus boycott was a social movement where African American's refused to ride city buses in Montgomery. This resulted in the supreme court to order Montgomery to integrate its bus system
  • Greensboro Sit in

    in 1960 a group of black African American students coordinated a sit-in at Woolworths in Greensboro. The police had come but were unable to do anything. The next day more came to join the sit in
  • James meredith

    In 1962 James was granted admission to the University of Mississippi but then had it revoked for racial reasons with help from the NCAAP a federal court order allowed him his admission. This caused the governor of Mississippi to block the entrance from him getting in, this then caused the president to have marshalls escort, James Meridith.
