Rosa Parks was arrested for not getting up out of her seat for a white man. She was later arrested, because the law states that you need to get up for a person of a white race if there are no seats left. -
Montgomery Bus Boycott
After Rosa Parks was arrested African Americans refused to ride the city bus, this started in more states around the country. -
Little Rock Nine
Nine black students enrolled in an all white school. The first day of school was a complete riot, protestors, and the national guard was there to keep these students from attending the school. -
Greensboro Sit In
A group of college students refused to leave an "All White," dining counter. When asked to leave they refused, starting a riot. They were arrested, but this started a whole new type of retaliation. -
Freedom Rides Began
A group of men and women rode together on a greyhound bus to take a stand against inequality. They did protests such as using all white bathrooms, sitting at all white lunch counters and more. -
March on Washington
250,000 people stood and marched together to raise awareness for Freedom and jobs. Martin Luther King Jr. Also gave his famous " I have a dream," speech. -
Birmingham Church Bombing
A Baptist church in Birmingham was attacked by a bomb while church members prepared for the Sunday service. This was motivated by Racial Discrimination and hatred, killing four girls, and injuring others. -
Martin Luther King Jr Shot
Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights activist during this time period. On this day he was shot on the balcony of his hotel. The riots only got worse from this event. -
Fair Housing act
After MLK's assassination, they passed an act that didn't allow discrimination for race, sex,religion, or origin when it came to housing.
