Emmett Till was murdered on Aug 25th, 1955 in Money, Mississippi. -
Rosa Parks
Rosa Parks refused too give up her seat to a white man on a Montgomery bus in 1955(Dec 1st). This led to her arrest and the Montgomery Bus Boycott. -
Montgomery Bus Boycott
After Rosa Parks' incident on the bus, it led to the boycott of all Montgomery buses, and lasted 13 months. -

The Little Rock 9 enter Central High School as federal troops oversee the situation sent by President Eisenhower. -
Sit-Ins
Four black college students sat at an all-white lunch counter and started a sit-in protest at Woolworth's store. -
Freedom Riders
Freedom riders begin a bus ride through the South to protest segregation. -
Ole Miss Integration
The University of Mississippi was integrated. James Merell was the first african american to attend, supported by NAACp president, Medgar Evers. -
Medgar Evers
Medgar Evers was shot and killed in his driveway. -
JFK
JFK was assassinated in Texas by Lee Harvey Oswald in a car on a route before a speech. It is still controversial how many shooters were present. -
MLK Jr. Arrest
MLK Jr. was arrested in Birmingham protesting in the "most segregated city in America". -
March on Washington
On August 28th, 1963, over 250,000 people marched on Washington to demand immediate passage of the civil rights bill. -
Freedom Summer
This was an attempt to register as many African Americans as possible to vote. -
24th Amendment
The 24th amendment was created, and banned polls tax. -
LBJ signs Civil Rights
President LBJ signed the premier legislation for Civil Rights into law. -
Malcom X
Malcom X, a muslim black rights activist, was assassinated for speaking out against Elijah Muhammad who had seduced and impregnated several women, many being underage. -
Selma
On March 7th, 1965, the march on Selma occurred, led by MLK and several other important figures. They marched from Selma to Montgomery to fight for voting rights. -
Voting Rights Act
President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act law outlawing literacy tests. -
Huey Newton & Bobby Seale
Huey Newton and Bobby Seale founded the Black Panthers political group known as the Black Panthers. -
MLK Assassination
Martin Luther King was assassinated by James Earl Ray on April 4th, 1968 in Memphis. -
Bobby Kennedy
Bobby Kennedy, younger brother of JFK, was assassinated at a convention, leaving the country without a calming, reassuring presence and the presidency campaign without a viable option. -
The Last Lynching
The last known lynching occurred. Michael Donald was killed by memebers of the KKK. His mother then later went to court and won the case, winning 7 million dollars, but taking the property of the KKK instead.
