Jackie Robinson
In the spring of 1949 Jackie Robinson became the first black baseball player in the MLB. He was born in 1919 and died in 1972. He played for the brooklyn dodgers. -
Ku Klux Klan
The KKK has made many rises and falls over history but there was a rapid increase in the 50s and 60s with all the civil right acts more than 7000 black people were killed in the USA and they say 25% could have been KKK members. -
Rosa Parks
This was when Rosa Parks was arresested in Montgomery, Alabama because she refused to give up her seat. African Americans rode in the back of busses and were expected to give up their seats if there were not enough seats for white passengers. -
Southern Manifesto
The southern mantifesto was an act made mostly by southerners that fueded the brown vs. board cae. It opposed all racial integration in public places. -
Montgomery Bus boycott
This was after the whole Rosa Parks flasco. Black people didnt want to have to sit in the back so they stopped using public transportation. This made profits drop very low and after this case went to court blacks were allowed to sit wherever. -
Thurgood Marshall
Thurgood Marshall was a NAACP president and a lawyer in the 50s. He won many cases invlving black people. He had part in the brown vs. boards case. -
Little Rock
In Little rock Arkansas there was an all white school that was very nice. After the desegeration acts, the top 9 black students around town decided to attend there. When the govenor found out about this locals and police barried the schools so they didnt come in. When Elsenhower heard of this he sent in paratroopers to help the black students. -
Freedom Rides
Freedom rides were interstste buses that went into the deep south. They were fire bombed, attacked and ambushed by the southerners including kkk members.
