Brown v. Board of Education
U.S. Supreme Court declares school segregation unconstitutional in Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka ruling. The original problem was that when the father of Linda Carol Brown tried to enroll her in an all white school, they didn't allow it. -
Rosa Parks
Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on a bus to a white man, a violation of the city's segregation laws. -
Bus boycott
African Americans were required to sit at the back of public buses and were forced to give up their seats to whites if the front of the bus filled up. Parks refused to give up her seat and was arrested because of it. The boycott happened because of this event, organized by the NAACP and other African American activists -

Martin Luther King Jr. assassinated
Martin Luther King Jr. had been assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee. James Earl Ray, a 40-year-old escaped fugitive, later admitted to the crime and was sentenced to a 99-years in prison.
