Brown vs. Board
The Supreme Court Case Brown vs. Board of Education is one of the first important events in the civil rights movement. It banned school segretation and also put an end to an eariler ruling that stated seprate but equal was ok. It lead the way to black students trying to go to white schools like the Little Rock Nine. -
Bus Boycott
This boycott is the most famous of all. Rosa Parks, who was a black woman, refused to give up her seat to a white man which resulted in her arrest. This ingited a over one year boycott of buses eventaully forcing people to let blacks sit wherever they wanted. -
Little Rock Nine
The Little Rock Nine were nine black students that were picked to go to Central High in Little Rock, which was mainly a white school. They were verbally and physically beaten but survived. The governor at the time soon shut down the school in order to prevent the Little Rock Nine from attending. -
James Mereidth
James Meredith was the first African American to attend the University of Mississippi. Just like what happened in Little Rock, there were many riots and violent people wanting Meredith not to attend the UM. -
I Have a Dream Speech
The most famous speech of Martin Luther King Jr. An sample from his speech is "Free at last! free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!
