President Truman issues executive order 9981 to end segregation in the armed forces. -
Brown v. Board of Education
Consolidation of five cases in one, the supreme court ruled that separate but equal could never be equal. This ended public school segregation. Thurgood Marshal was appointed attorney for the plaintiffs. -
Rosa Parks doesn't give up her seat
In an Alabama bus, Rosa Parks does not give her seat to a white man. This action results in a bus boycott. -
Little Rock Nine
Nine black children are denied entry to Little Rock Central High School in Arkansas, therefore Eisenhower sent federal personnel to escort the students in. -
March on Washington
Biggest political gathering for rights in the U.S. Estimated 300,000 participants marched for better jobs and freedom. Martin Luther King did him "I have a Dream Speech." -
