Truman's Executive Order
Truman signs Executive Order 9981. It states that, "It is hereby declared to be the policy of the President that there shall be equality of treatment and opportunity for all persons in the armed services without regard to race, color, religion, or national origin." -

The Supreme Court unanimously agreeded that segregation in school was unconstitutional. This led the way for a large-scale of desegregation -
Rosa Parks
Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat in the "colored section" of the bus to a white. This defyed the southern custom and she was arrested. Her arrest ignited a black community bus boycott. Buses become desegregated December 21, 1956.
