NAACP Rosa Parks refused to stand for a white man and was arrested. This event triggered the bus boycott. -

Bus boycott that lasted over 11 months. Ended segregation on buses. -
Little Rock Nine
Central High School admits 9 African American students. The govenor sent the National Guard to keep them from entering. Later the president sent paratroopers to get them in. -

Faubus shut down schools in an attepmt to stop the desegregration of schools. -
Four black students start at sit-in
Four black students from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical College begin a sit-in at a segregated lunch counter. They are refused service but stay there. This triggers several sit in across the country -
James Meredith becomes first black student at University of Mississippi
