  • Brown vs board education

    They had to take the trial to suprem court and they end of legalized racial segregation in the schools. The Supreme Court ruled that separating children in public schools on the basis of race was unconstitutional.
  • Emmett Till

    He was accused of interacting with a white female and she didn’t like that so told her husband. So her husband abducted him and beaten him and tortured and lynched in the Mississippi for doing that to a girl.
  • Rosa parks

    She was arrested for sitting where she wasn’t supposed to and people started a protest with her. Which ended up the bus stops losing money and blacks started to walk to work. They had walked every day for 18 months then things were fixed and now they all ride buses and sit where they want
  • SCLC

    This was created when 60 black minsters and civil rights leaders met in Atlanta Georgia. They where trying to replicate the successful strategy and tactics of concluded Montgomery Alabama bus boycott.
  • Little Rock 9

    They were 9 black kids who enrolled in school and was bullied and racially profiled for going to an all white school. They wouldn’t let them in the school or they would call them names and racially profiled by the school and governor of Arkansas
  • Greensboro 4

    4 college students sat down at a lunch counter at Woolworth’s to be served. They were refused service continued to “sit in” and others joined the protest spread to other towns forced a changed.
  • Student nonviolent coorinating commutes and freedom summer

    Youth group of stufent remainded fiercly independent of MLK and SCLC generating their own project strategies. The two organizations worked side by side throughout the early years of civil rights movement. This group was second half of freedom riders and were apart of the march to Selma.
  • Freedom riders

    2 weeks bus trip to the Deep South, to deliberately violate Jim Crow laws. It was organized by CORE The buses were burned and riders beaten by the KKK. November 1 1961 white and colored signs are removed from bus stations, trains and lunch counters.
  • March of Washington

    Jobs and freedom was to adudacte for the the civil and economic rights of African Americans 250,000 people were in attendance at the Lincoln memorial. Milk was the last to speak, and gave his “I have a dream speech” 70 to 80% of marchers were black, it helped to pass the civil rights of 1964
  • Civil rights act of 1964

    Forbids employers and labor unions to discriminate against any person on grounds of race, color, religion sex physical disability or age in job related matters prohibits against anything
  • March on Selma/ Bloody Sunday

    600 students march from Selma to Montgomery Alabama to get the right to vote. They walked 54 miles and were stopped at the bridge seen on national television. LBJ order the passage of 1965 voting rights law. 2nd match took place march 21-24 with 25,000 marchers including MLK.
  • Voting rights act

    They were afraid to vote but they had a right to vote but whites would not let them. They would give them a hard test. They would even have them fired from jobs or would abuse their families for trying to vote.
