  • African American Migration

    After the Civil War, many African Americans moved to northern cities and many got jobs.
  • NAACP

    This group worked hard for African American rights and challenged segregation laws
  • LULAC

    The LULAC was formed to get equality rights for Hispanics. They protested for desegregation in schools and faught for their rights.
  • New Deal

    Roosevelt and the Democrats began to gain African American support and helped give jobs to them under Roosevelt in the federal governemnt
  • World War II

    offered more jobs and some were given the right to vote. By the end of the war more people saw racism and discriminatism wasn't right.
  • Native Americans

    The government wanted to terminate, or eliminate, all reservations that the Native Americans lived on. They wanted Native Americans to live like everyone else.
  • Brown vs. Board of Education

    The ruling was that schools should not be segregated. The public had a mixed reaction. Many white Americans, accepted this ruling even if they did not agree, but southern Americans reacted with anger, fear, and resistance. More than 90 members of Congress expressed their opposition to the Court's ruling knowns as the "Southern Manifesto"
  • Montgomery Bus Boycott

    In December, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white man. She was taken by police and ordered her to be on trial for violating segregation laws. The Civil Rights leaders in Montgomery, Alabama met and decided to boycott the buses until they changed its segregation policies.
  • Little Rock Nine

    The Little Rock Nine was a group of nine African Americans that went to the Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. Outside of the school, there were angry mobs and these nine children were protected by soldiers.
