    The student nonviolent coordinating committee was formed in Georgia to give younger blacks the privilege to have a voice in the civil rights movement. They had sit ins at places where they weren't allowed to sit. They were led by Martin Luther King Jr..They had many protests but they wouldn't show any violence.
  • Herman Talmadge

    Herman Talmadge
    He was a democratic politician. He became the 70th governor of Georgia. He was also elected into the U.S. Senate. He was an opponent to civil rights legislation but he began talking to some black voters.
  • Sibley commission

    The General Assembly Committee was charged regarding school desegregation. Sibley was the leader of the committee who agreed with the charge of the General Assembly. Although Sibley agreed with segregation. Georgia Governor Vandiver introduced the idea of Shibley's desegregation meanings.
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
    This court case ruled that segragation in schools was unconsitutional. In Georgia now saome of the blacks were going to school with the whites and many still thought it was wrong becasue they said that it should be seprate schools.
  • Andrew Young

    Andrew Young is an American politician, diplomat, activist, and pastor from Georgia. He becomes the executive director of SCLC. He has served as a Congressman from Georgia.
  • Civil rights act

    Civil rights act
    The Civil Rights Act of 1964 ended segregation in public places and banned bosses from only having employees based on race. This lead to the voting rights of African Americans in 1965 which prohibited literacy tests and banned discrimination against the blacks. This effected Georgia because now blacks and whites were suppose to have equal powers to everything and now they have to share everything with the blacks.

    Africans were now allowed to vote in the Democracy Primary. In the case King v. Chapman the court realized that it was unconstitutional to not let african Americans not vote in the primary.

    He was the 75th governor of the state of Georgia. He was a segregationist. He was a high school drop out and he stil became governor.
  • Albany movement

    Albany movement
    Many of citizens in Albany had several campaigns against the water fountains being segregated. This attracted many people's attention across the United States. Martin Luther King Jr. was asked to come join their campaign. Sadly their attempts didn't pay out in the long run. But it did make a lot of arguments about the facilities. It was taken place in Georgia and got Georgia thinking about segragation.
  • Maynard Jackson

    Maynard Jackson
    He was a lawyer at the National Labor Relations Board. He was a vice mayor in Atlanta in 1969 ad then became the mayor of Atlanta. He was the first African American person to ever become a mayor in the United States. He served 3 terms as mayor from 1974–82 and 1990–94.
