Plessy v. Ferguson
Ruled “separate but equal” was OK. This ruling lasted about 50 years before people began to question it. -
Brown v. Board of Education
Declared segregation in public schools in public schools unconstitutional, stated that "seperate educational facilities are inheritantely unequal" Begining of civil rights era. -
SCLC
“Southern Christian Leadership Conference” was a civil rights organization, Martin Luther King Jr. was first president. Played a large role in the civil rights movement, founded after the Montgomery bus boycott. -
Civil Rights Act
Outlawed major forms of discrimination against racial, ethnic, national, and religious minorities. Also outlawed discrimination
against women. Ended unequal application for voter registration requirements. -
Civil Rights Act
Provided for equal housing opportunities regardless of race, creed, or national origin. Known as the “Fair Housing Act”, it was a follow up to the 1964 Act. -
