  • Plessy v. Ferguson

    Plessy v. Ferguson
    The case of Plessy v. Ferguson stated that "seperate but equal" was okay and would continue to be followed. This meant that there would still be seperate restrooms, drinking fountains, waiting areas, etc, for whites and for those of color. Also, they said it was no different for these to utilities to be seperate.
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
    The case of Brown v. Board of education argued that "seperate but equal" was not okay and was not equal either. This case was huge for the Civil Rights Movement because it overturned the Plessy v. Ferguson case and affected 21 states although the south vowed to resist.
  • Rosa Parks

    Rosa Parks
    On December 1, 1955 Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat and sit at the back of the bus.
  • Little Rock High School

    Little Rock High School
    Arkansas governor called the National Gaurd to turn away black students after the Little Rock High School was desegregated. A few days later, President Eisenhower instead ordered the National Guard to protect the students rather than turn them away.
  • Birgmingham

    Birgmingham
    When the freedom riders were traveling through Birmingham to test the segregation, the riders were badly beat by a mob of angry whites and soon after some riders were replaced by white student volunteers.
