The Election of Abraham Lincoin
This was inportant because Abraham Lincolin was the president that led us successfully through the Civil Rights Movement. -
Emancipation Proclamation
It declared "that all persons held as slaves are, and henceforward shall be free." This was important because it freed all the slaves and put an end to slavery. -
The formationof the Ku Klux Klan
The Ku Klux Klan is a very racist group that targeted Blacks and Republicans. They started extremely violent riots and killed many black people. This was important because it greatly effected the Black's lives and made it much more difficult to live with. They held strong to their belief that Black's belonged and deserved to be slaves. -
Succession- Who took over after Abraham was assasinated.
This was important beacuase, once Abraham was killed, Andrew Johnson took over and helped finish leading our country through the Civil Rights Movemernt. -
13th Amendment
This amendment states that neither slavery nor involuntary servitude shall exist in the United States except as a punishment for crime. It abolished slavery. -
14th Amendment
This amendment stated that all people that are born in the United States are citizens of the United States. Also states that no State can deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law. -
15th Amendment
This amendment states that all citizens of the United States cannot be denied the right to vote on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude. -
The election of 1876
This election signaled the end of Reconstruction. Rutherford B. Hayes was delcared the winner and, in return, he promised to pull all remaining federal troops from the South. This election of Hayes is what ended Reconstruction, therefore, making it important in History. -
Civel Rights cases
The Civil Rights cases were important because they dealed with segregation and how the African-Amercians had sued different facilities for refusing them admittance and excluding them because the facilities had been "white only." This impacted how we would deal with segregation. -
Jim Crow laws
Jim Crow laws kept segregation between the whites and the blacks. There would be certain places that were "whites only" and therefore the blacks could not enter. These laws were important because if affected the people very greatly and was a big part of the Civil Rights Movement.
