The Emancipation Proclimation was issued which freed the slaves from confederacy. -
The KKK (Ku Klux Klan) started
The KKK began because there where six veterans that did not like the facts that blacks had their freedom. The KKK was also mad becase they didn't want to loose their slaves.The KKK was a group of people that decited to at first just have mischief but after a few months they started killing blacks. -
Plesy V. Ferguson
Was a case that went to the Supreme Court about a black man that was sitting in a “white” car on a train and not in a “colored” car. The argument was that that was unconstitutional because, the cars where separate and unequal and they would have been fine if it was separate and equal. This is requiring racial segregation in private businesses. -

Brown v. Board of education of Topeka
This was a case that was about black children not being able to go to a school where white kids were going. The white and black school looked at the equality by how different the buildings, curricula, qualifications, and teacher salaries were. -
Emmett Till was kidnapped and killed
Emmett Till was kidnapped, brutaly beaten, shot, and dumped in the Tallahatchie River while visiting his family in Mississippi. The reason he was kidnapped was because he whistled at a white woman. The people who kidnapped him were two whtie men, J. W. Milam and Roy Bryant. When they went to court for the muder of Emmett Till they got a jury of all white people. They did not go to jail. After that the were boasting about how they murdered the kid and did not go to jail for their crime. -
Rosa Parks

Malcom X assassinated
Born Malcolm Little in Omaha, Neb., on May 19, 1925, this world-renowned black nationalist leader was assassinated at the Audubon Ballroom in Manhattan on the first day of National Brotherhood Week. A Black Muslim Minister, revolutionary black freedom fighter, civil rights activist and for a time the national spokesperson for the Nation of Islam, he famously spoke of the need for black freedom "by any means necessary."
