preventing the axis powers from going any farther. -
British and American troops land in Sicily, and take it over by mid
August. -
British and American powers land on Normandy, and succesfully establish a "second front".

Hitler commits suicide in an underground bunker. This is an especially important event, because it lowered the troops morall,
and gave the allies an extra boost to win the war. -
After months of making a nuclear bomb, the Americans win the arms race. The damage on Hiroshima because of the nuke is great, and the illions dead greatly lower morall for Japanese soldiers.

Japan surrenders because of heavy losses due to failure, and two nuke attacks. They agree to terms of surrender, and the war is over.
