The first major horse race in America was held in 1823 at Union Course on Long Island. -
Gold rush brings horses to California.
As people travel to California for the gold rush they bring thoroughbreds to the west. This will kick start the sport in the west. -
Polo is brought to the US.
Polo is first introduced to the US by newspaper publisher James Gordon Bennett. -
First Rodeo in the USA.
Located in Prescott, Arizona, the first "Cowboy Tournament' was held. It featured cash prizes. -
Establishment of the Jockey Club.
American horse breeders and jockeys got together and started the Jockey Club of america. The club still manages and regulates modern horse racing. -
Gambling is available at over 300 racetracks.
Owners and Viewers are now able to bet on horses at over 300 tracks all across the US. -
Sir Barton is the first to take the Triple Crown.
Sir Barton is the first to win three consecutive victory's at Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes, and the Belmont Stakes, taking the Triple Crown. -
First Ellensburg Rodeo
The first Ellensburg Rodeo is held and is still held today becoming one of the most respected rodeos in the west. -
NFR Established
The NFR is established and will become the biggest rodeo and cowboy or cowgirl can go to. -
First Triple Crown winner in 25 years.
Secretariat is the first person to take Triple Crown in 25 years. Winning the Belmont by 31 horse lengths. -
First PBR
The first PBR is held at Cowtown Coliseum. It will later become the biggest name in bull riding. -
American Pharaoh takes the Triple Crown after 36 years.
The Triple Crown is won by American Pharaoh after not having a single horse take it in 35 years. -
100th Ellensburg Rodeo
The 100th Ellensburg takes place labor day weekend. Tickets sell out for all four days.
