Phenakistoscope
It was the first animation device to see a moving image on like the early film. -
Zoetrope
The drawing and photograph of an image that spins around showing something like a horse running showing a mini film and giving the illusion of it moving. -
Praxinoscope
The Praxinoscope I similar to the Zoetrope but it has mirrors in the middle of it. The images, on a paper strip are put on the outside of the circle, when it spins the images can are seem in the mirror. -
Zoopraxinoscope
It an early device for displaying a moving image. It was considered to be the first movie projector. Images are on a glass disc, put into a projector so that a moving image was projected onto a wall. This meant that a lot of people could see the image together. -
Kinetoscope
It is an invention that showed a moving image to one person at a time through a peephole on the top of the device. Inside the device was a long strip of paper which had lots of images for people to see. When someone looked through the peephole they saw the images one at a time but very quickly which made a moving image. -
Cinematograph
Lumiere Brothers made a moving image camera. It had a handle to work it. As well as being a camera it was also a projector. -
Translucent paper, e.g. to improve hand-drawn techniques, to create layers; sprites
Images are drawn by hand on paper. Each picture is a bit different from the next to make it look like it is a moving image. -
Sound in animation, e.g. steamboat Willie
This was the first image that was had sound to go with the moving picture and was made by Walt Disney. -
Standardisation of film, e.g. 24 fps
This was to check that all the films were in working as they should and that movie cameras and projectors ran at the same speed which was 24 frame per second. -

Computer Generated Imagery. This uses computer software to generate images to make a movie with 3D characters such as Woody and Buzz Light-year. -
• Performance (motion) capture, e.g. The polar Express (Warner Bros
They wear a green suit with markers so they can perform a scene. The computer is used to term the movements of the actors into the movements of characters. -
• Computer drawing software, e.g. CAD (computer-aided design)
This is basically a way to draw things on a computer to help you create characters for a movie or game.
