Marriage (Intimacy versus Isolation)
At age 30, Christian decided to marry his long time girlfriend Khay because he was certain that she was the love of his life. In Erikson's sixth stage of intimacy versus isolation, the crisis is being completely honest and open to your partner (intimacy) or keep secrets and not being able to open up that causes problems (isolation) in the relationship. -
Divorce (Ego Integrity versus Despair)
After 20 years together, Christian's wife filed a divorce because she did not feel loved and felt that he always kept something (integrity) from her. Christian regrets the times he wasn't completely honest (guilt) to his wife. In Erikson's eight stage, ego integrity versus despair, the crisis is between contentment and regret (despair) wishing for another chance to make things right but knowing it is already too late.
