Lake Mead National Recreational Area
Chris's Datsun gets stuck in a flash flood and his money was stolen, so he buries his belongings and leaves -
Orick Beach
Jan Burres sees Chris on the road and picks him up, and treats him as her own child. -
Cut Bank, Montana
This is the first time that Chris sees Wayne Westerberg, and stays with him in South Dakota for a couple months, and works for him. Wayne described him as a hard worker that seems to feel the need to finish a task that he starts. -
Mexican Border
Chris reaches the city of Yuma near the Mexican border and sends postcard up to Wayne. -
Gulf of California
Chris travels through the Colorado River and finds himself on the Gulf of California and travels down the river then back up it towards Sonora Mexico. -
San Diego, California
Chris tries to sneak back into the United States and is caught by San Diego's immigration authorities. -
Los Angeles, California
Chris travels to California to apply for an ID and get a job, but gets annoyed with society and leaves soon. -
Detrital Wash/ Lake Mead
Chris stops by to dig up some of his belongings that he buried earlier on. -
Bullhead City
Chris arrives in Bullhead City, Arizona where he settles down in a trailer and starts his job at McDonald's. He works there under his real name of Chris McCandless instead of Alex SuperTramp. -
The Slabs
Chris meets up with Jan Burres and Bob once again, and head out towards the abandoned navy air base where a flea market has sprouted for tramps vagabonds to hang out at. Chris helps out at Jan's stand and really tries to sell books. -
Ron Franz
Alex Supertramp as Ronald Franz knew Chris as was setting up camp outside Salton City in California and Ron picks him up and the two become very close -
Back to South Dakota
Chris leaves Franz but then calls him later to see if he can get a ride close to South Dakota, and is dropped off at Colorado. Chris tells him to sell everything and live his life on the road and not to care so much. -
Off to Alaska
Chris after working for Wayne again for a bit feels the need to finally take his trip to his destination, and after a difficult hitch hiking he finds himself in Fairbanks. -
Fairbanks
Jim Gallien, the last man to see Chris drops him off in the wild just by the Stampede Trail -
Meeting Jim
Hitchhiking on the highway Chris is picked up by Jim Gallien. Jim offers him better equipment but only accepts small gifts like his shoes and a small amount of food, and is finally dropped off at Stampede Trail. Jim decides not to tell the troopers about Chris believing he will travel to the highway if in any trouble. Jim is the last person to see Chris. -
Chris's Death
Chris's rotting body is found in the bus curled up in a sleeping bag after dying of of starvation from the potato seeds going bad. Chris survived 112 days in the harsh wild and only 19 days later his body was found in the bus curled up.
