Taiping Rebellion
Was an massive civil war in China. It was an millerninan movement led by the Hong Xiuquan he announced that he had recieved his visions in which he learned he was the younger brother of Jesus. 2 million people died but the most were civilians.

Wuchang Uprising
The Wuchang Uprising started the Xinhai Revolutuion which led to the collapse of the Qing Dynasty. The Uprising itself was basically an accident. During this time the city of Wuchang had the most modern military industry.

Northern Expedition
The Northern Expedition was basically a miltitary campaign led by the Kumintang. The main purpose for this campaign was to bring China together uder its control. By doing this they ended the Beiyang government as well as the local warlords.

Mukden Incident
Also known as the Manchurian Incident. It was the seizure by the Japanese troops of the Manchurian Inciddent in Mukden City. This incident was basically a confrontation that gave Japan the impetus to set up a puppet government in Manchuria.

Long March
The Long March was an military retreat undertaken by the Red Army of the Communist Party of China. There was not just one long march but an series of marches. The march also saved the Mao Zedong and the Communist Party from being attack by the Guomingdangs.

Seventeen Point agreement with Tibet
An agreement between the Central's Peeople government and the Local Goverment of Tibet. The greement was about the peaceful liberation of Tibet. The document was by the 14 delgates of th Dalai Lama sovereign the state of Tibet to reach an agreenment.

Great Leap Foward
The Graet Leap Foward was Mao's attempt to modernise China's economy so that China would have an economy that rivavled America. Mao began to tour China and he thought that they should target indusrty and agriculuture. The Great Leap Foward was a Five Year Plan to last from 1958 to 1963.

Chinese Nationalists move Capital to Taiwan
Chinese Nationalists leaders departed for the island of Taiwan were they established there new capital. The nationalist leader Chiang Kai- shek left to go to the island the next day. With the nationalist leader leaving this eventually marked begininning of Two Chinas.

People's Republic of China admitted to UN
Nationalist government of ROC was one of the founders of the
United Nations of 1945. Varous nations that were friendly to the PRC added pressure on the UN to replace the ROC representives with people that were Communst China. Two- thirds of the General Assembly supported the resolution.

Nixon visits China
U.S. President Richard Nixon visits the People's Republic of China. This was the first time an U.S president visited the PRC. Which at this time the United States was an enemy to the PRC. The visit ended the 25 years of conflict betwween the two sides.

Gang of Four Arrested
The Gang of Four was led by Mao Zedong fourth wife Jiang Qing. The group was an powerful political influence on China Communism. During the Cultural Revoultion her group targeted some leaders like Zhou Enlai, Deng Xioping and Liu Shaoqi.After the death of Mao in 1976 the group was arrested and they were also politically discredited.

One Child Policy Instituted
China one child policy was an open letter by the Chinese Communist party. The policy was created when Mao started a campaign for families to have more children. The estimated birth rates was 4 children per family. This eventuaqlly led to an food shortage which was an result from Mao's failed economic planning. Which was called the Great Leap Foward also 30 million Chinese died from man made famine.

Tiannamen Square protests
Tiananmen Square is located in the center of Beijing which is the capital of China. Tiananmen means gate of heavenly peace.The protests was basically a group of your college students marching for a more democratic government. Chinese troops entered the square and fired on civilians. The death toll range was from several hundred to thousands. And
over 10,000 people were arrested as well.

Building of the Gorges Dam
The Dam is hydroelctric that spans the Yangtze River near the town of Sandouping. The Three Gorges Dam is the world largest power station. As well as producing electricity the dam is intended to increase the Yangtze Rivier shipping capacity.

The Hainan Island Incident occured when thier was an mid air collision between the United States Navy and the The People's Liberation Army Navy. Which resulted in an international dispute between the U.S and The People's Republican of China.
