New Bolshevik gov´t announced the imperialists, and said that all contested border claims would be dropped.Imperialism was perceived as one of main China´s problems. -
May Forth Movement
dedicated to a change and the rebirth of China as a proud and independent nation. Students began the mass movement against the warlords, in Beijing. -
CCP
Emerged during the warlord period. The Chinese Communist Party. At the beggining it was mainly formed by intellectuals and it had not military strenght. -
GMD nationalist party
GMD had grown much stronger during the warlord period. Communists and nationalists were to come together in an alliance. -
First United Front
Both GMD and CCP wanted a unified China. They needed to get rid of the warlords, so they ended up making an alliance, creating the First United Front. China needed to be free from the foreign imperialists powers. -
General Jiang Jieshi
GMD were limited by their lack of power beyond the south. Were rely on warlord alliances. Sun died and Jiang Jieshi took his place.
Jiang was a commited nationalist and was military prepared. -
Northern Expedition
GMD´s attempt to get rid of warlords. Set up this plan to crush the warlords of central and northern China. -
Expedition Success
It took only one year to the GMD to have a great success on the Northern Expedition.The warlords were totally crushed and they have captured Hangzhou, Shanghai and Nanjing. -
White Terror
Jiang expelled all the communists from the GMD. Attacks over communists took a peak in Shanghai in 1927. Over 5000 communists were shot. After Shanghai, they began moving their attacks to other cities, movement known as "purification movement". By the end of the year the CCP was almost destroyed. -
Take of Berlin
By 1928, they had taken Beijing. It took the GMD only two years to completely destroy the power of the warlords. The GMD announced that it was the legitimate new gov´t of China.
