Communist Party takes China - More is better?
The Communist party took over China in 1949 and they said that the population growth (which was larger than America) was a benificial thing. -
China's Population at a dangerous rise
The population of China was growing more and more frequently and the food supplies were beginning to shorten. -
China's Population still rising - Shortages imminent
China's population was continuingly rising, and due to Mao's attempts to convert China into an industrial country, nationwide shortages of food began to take place. -
Colossal amount of chinese deaths
Due to massive food shortages in 1958, around 20-30 million Chinese citizens starved to death. -
One Child Policy propaganda introduced
Because of the massive amount of deaths between 1958 and 1961, China started to introduce propaganda into the media about having less children. -
Population still growing, but slowly
Things began to get better. Although there were still some shortages of food in the nation, the population was slowly coming to a halt. -
Mao dies and passes on the Chinese people
Mao dies in 1976 leaving the problems to Deng Xiaoping. He looks to neighbouring countries; Japan, Taiwan, South Korea etc. for help on what to do with the country's food supply and economic standard. -
One Child Policy goes legitimate
The One Child Policy is officially introduced into China. Couples need direct permission to have a child and must produce the correct papers (Later, this is revoked and changed to permission only needed if you wish to have more than one child + a fine) -
The One Child Policy Continues
Now the policy has been put officially into place, people begin to take note of it. The population decreases, but healthily. Statistics are going back to normal; death and birth rates go back to regular levels and food shortages are no longer prominent. -
Economic Growth..
Because the policy has been in effect for over a decade, China begins to go forward in economics. The country becomes richer in the markets and higher class people are living much better. -
At the current day...
Now the One Child Policy has been in effect for over 32 years. China's population is still massive, but it was predicted it would be nearly double what it is today if the policy had not been introduced.
