Sun overthrew the Qing Dynasty and became the leader of the Republic of China in 1911. He turned over his power to a powerful general named Yuan Shikai. -

Communist Party

Lenin sent the Nationalist group in China, the opposition of Mao Zedong, supplies and military advisers to defeat the Communist party. The Nationalist group was called the Kuomintang. -

Sun Yixian died and power was given to Jiang Jieshi, who was a powerful military leader. -
Attack on Shanghai
Nationalist forces invaded Shanghai and killed almost all the leaders of the Communist Party. Jiang Jieshi became the leader of the Nationalist party. -

Jiang Jieshi's attack on Shanghai lead to a civil war breaking out between the Communists and the Nationalists. -

Mao Zedong and many of his forces fled on a 6,000 mile march to escape the Nationalist forces. -

Japan took advantage of the CIvil war and invaded China. This forced both parties to ally and fight off the invasion. -

Jiang broke the treaty with the CCP, and attacked once again following the end of WWII. -
Mao's Reign
Mao removed diloyal members of his party and his citizens very brutally and severely. His control was very tyranical. -
U.S. Holds a Meeting
The U.S. holds a meeting and tells Jiang Jieshi and Mao Zedong that they need to make a Deomcratic government together and stop the fighting. -
U.S. Recognizes New Government
Following the defeat of Japan in WWII, the U.S. and allied forces recognized the new Chinese government and gave them a seat at the U.N. -
