China's Economic Ascension

  • Opium War

    Opium War
The Opium War was one of China's worst points in it's history. It was also when China was divided up between all the world powers a few being Great Britain, France and the United States at a later time. This is bad because it basically gave China no control on what it was able to produce/sell and it fell into economic decay for many years after. This Decay caused China's people to want a better "outsider" free economy.
  • Great Leap Down

    Great Leap Down
The "Great Leap Forward" was a vastly unsuccessful plan to boost China's Farming production by Great measures. Plan established communes to Farm a large amount of crops. Didn't help the economy as it was supposed to, because Citizens were often put off from farming to do other jobs like building schools and roads. This caused less crops to be produced which in turn caused less work to be done and less economic growth. This caused the economy to collapse after it had started to regain strength.
  • Cultural Revolution

    Cultural Revolution
From the Economic collapse the citizens became upset with Mao Zedong which cause the Red Guards to form in retaliation. The Red Guards cause havoc that forced schools and factories to shut down. with schools shut down children weren't educated, and with factories shut down goods to sell weren't produced. This cause China to fall to it's lowest economical point after being weakened so much prior to this.
  • Four Modernizations

    Four Modernizations
After Mao's death Deng Xiaping came to power, ousting Mao's wife, and installed the "Four Modernizations" which had a positive affect on China's economy. It turned China's command economy into a partial free market and ended Communes. Deng also opened china to world trade for the first time since it had gained it's freedom. All of this has lead China to have an economy that grew fast and strong till today where it nearly sits as the world's second strongest Economy.
