Many children worked 12-18 hours a day for 6 days a week and only got paid a dollar. Many children began working before the age of 7 tending machines in spinning mills and lifting and moving heavy equipment. -
Other Countries
Kenya: prohibits children under 16 for industrial work.
Bangladesh: specifies minimum age for work but sets no rules on domestic or agricultural work. -
Other fact
Poor children and families rely on there children working so they can get things they need. And more than 1/4 of the worlds people live in extreme poverty. In africa and other places the work the children have to do is considered child labor. -
New England Unions Condemn Child Labor
New England farmers, mechanics and other working people thought that children should not be able to work in factories from morning to night. Without being able to play outside and other stuff kids should do. -

Massachusetts requires children under 15 that work to go to school for 3 months a year. -

In 1876 the Working Mens Party proposes banning the work of children under the age of 14. -
American federation of labor
In 1881 the first national convention of the American Federation of Labor (AFL) passed a resolution telling the states to not let children under 14 work for the factories. -
Samuel Gompers
In 1883, Samuel Gompers was the leader in the New York labor movement to sponsor l the legislation not letting cigar making in places , where thousands of young children worked in the trade. -

In 1904, the National Child Labor Committee was formed. This child labor Committee was formed April 25. It was formed at a mass meeting in Carnegie Hall New York city. Men and Women attended to because they were concerned about the working children. -
