Reies Tijerina
López Tijerina was born September 21, 1926 in San Antonio, Texas. He founded the Federal Alliance of Land Grants to reclaim ownership of their lands. He turned to militancy he spent alot of time in confinement.

1947 Mendez v Westminster
The Mendez vs. Westminster was the first case in the federal court were segregation in schools was successfully challenged. The Mendez's sent their mexican children to a local school to be told that they would have to attend a separate Mexican school. This angered Mexicans, and they didn't want to be second class citizens anymore. This case was a step in ending segregation with Mexican Americans school children in California.

Cesar Chavez founds National Farm Workers Association, later called United Farm Workers
Cesar Chavez led a nonviolent leadership, which effectively unionized the produce industry. -
Chavez starts strike against grape growers
Chavez tried to improve living and working conditions for Mexicans by leading a strike against the wealthy vineyard owners. The boycott against grape growers won a victory, when 5 years later the growers accepted union contracts.

Regan passes the Immigration Reform and Control Act
This granted illegal immigrants the ability to be able to live in the US and eventually become a citizen of the US. 3 billion were estimated to have been benefitted by this.

Arizona: Support our law enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods act
referred to as Arizona SB 1070. It requires immigrants of as recent as 6 months or less to carry their documents and ID at all times. And any police with "reasonable suspicion can question the person. The law is very strict and it was caused from so many of Mexican decent migrating to America for a better life.

Accomplishments
They did not have many accomplishments in laws or politically but Chicanos (Mexican Americans) are 16% of Americas population and growing fast and they want to get rid of stereotypes.

problems Chicano people still face today
Chicano people still are recieving lower income. Because of this low income, there is a high dropout rate in the Hispanic community. These people want to find jobs to help support their familles. Also because of the high dropout rate, there is a lot of ganng violence in those neighborhoods.
