The 18th Amendment
The 18th Amendment was ratified. The sale of alcohol was prohibited everywhere in the U.S. -
Race Riots
On July 27, the Race Riots began when a black man was hit with a stone and drowned after drifting onto a white section at Lake Michigan. Many African Americans erupted into violence and these race riots lasted unitl August 2; which left 38 people dead and hundreds injured and homeless. -
Radio
Radios first came to be around the 1920's. This was the first time people were actually able to connect to the world and get updates on current events. -
19th Amendment
In August 18, 1920, women were given the right to vote. Susan B. Anthony played a key role during the women's rights movement because she introduced women's sufrage to the U.S. -
Rural to Urban
More Americans lived in urban areas rather than rural areas. -
The Great Depression
At this time, the stock market crashes and the Great Depression begins. -
Chicago Mobs
The south side Italian gang, led by Al Capone, shot and killed seven members of the north side Irish gang led by Bugs Moran. They called this the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre and this was the biggest massacre anyone has ever seen.
