    FACT CHECK: On Aug. 3rd, 1492 Columbus set sail and did not find land until Oct. 12th, 1492.
    CONNECTION: Columbus's adventures had started a new civilization for us all to live and thrive in.
    RATING: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ I rated the movie three stars because it was a very educational, action packed movie but it would not be a movie I would just sit at home and watch for fun.
  • 12 Years a Slave

    12 Years a Slave
    EVENT: Solomon Northup went to Washington, D.C. to meet two entertainers who had promised him a job, instead he was tricked and ended up in chains and became a slave.

    FACT CHECK: Solomon Northup was a slave for 12 years and wrote a book about it.

    CONNECTION: There are people out here today still fighting for equality, although it is not as bad as back then.
    RATING: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ I rated the movie 3 stars because I enjoyed the story but some parts in the movie were too brutal for me to watch.

    FACT CHECK: Abraham Lincoln became the 16th President in 1861, issuing the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863.
    CONNECTION: The Thirteenth Amendment is still applied to us today, making slavery very illegal in the U.S.

    RATING: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Although it was boring and I would not watch this at home, I rated it three stars because it was very educational and I learned some things from the movie.

    Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
    As Bill and Ted travel through time, they decide to make a stop in 1879. They meet Billy the Kid, a late 19th century thief and gunfighter. In the movie they end up taking Billy the Kid to be apart of their history project. Before they leave they see how scared everyone is of Billy. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--5UfnuMp64) I connected to the movie because both got to learn a bunch of new things each time they traveled to a new time period, just like how I get to learn new things! 4/5 stars

    EVENT: Sam Krichinsky comes to America for the first time and ends up living in Baltimore during the early 20th century.

    FACT CHECK: By 1913, when Baltimore immigration was averaging forty thousand per year, the government built an immigration center.

    CONNECTION: There is still tons of immigrants coming to the U.S. everyday.
    RATING: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ The movie had some very funny and entertaining moments but parts of it were kind of slow and hard to follow due to their accents.
  • The Grapes of Wrath

    E: The Joad family head out on the road to find work and start a new life.

    FC: During the 1930s was the time of the Dust Bowl which was when bad dust storms would ruined lots of agricultures crops.

    C: Traumatic events like this happen all the time to this day. For example; California faced horrible wildfires causing that to be one of the worst droughts in a long time.

    RATING: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ I thought the movie had some interesting/entertaining parts but I missed one day of it.

    EVENT: Operation Shingle (Battle of Anzio)
    FACT CHECK: This event actually happened, the Battle of Anzio was the Allied attempt to get German troops off the Gustav Line during Operation Shingle.
    CONNECTION: The black pilots were treated differently because of their color, its still like this today but not as bad.

    RATING: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ I really enjoyed this movie because it was action packed and the story behind it had a very powerful message.

    EVENT: The Voting Rights Act of 1965, it gave the right for African Americans to vote.
    FACT CHECK: It was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson
    CONNECTION: African Americans were treated very differently back then because of their color, it is still like this today but not as bad I think.

    RATING: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ I really enjoyed the story and message that was portrayed in the movie, I learned a lot from it.

    EVENT: Forrest Gump joins the army and is deployed to Vietnam.
    FACT CHECK: The Vietnam War actually happened, November 1, 1955 – April 30, 1975.

    CONNECTION: Forrest Gump lost his best friend in the war, was shot and able to go home. When a soldier is seriously injured in the war most of the time they are able to go home after hospital care.

    RATING: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ I love this movie because of the beautiful story that is told.
  • Rescue Dawn

    EVENT: Dieter Dengler, a German-born U.S. Navy pilot, was shot down and captured.
    FACT CHECK: Viet Cong would actually capture anyone on the opposite side and they would become prisoners for years.

    CONNECTION: Although they are more upgraded now, jets are still used today.

    RATING: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ I really liked it because it was an interesting story and I enjoyed all the action.
