US bombs Libya
The US bombed Libya because of the Berlin Discoteque Bombing in 1986. During that bombing Libya was working with East Germany. Ronald Reagan decided to bomb Libya because they believed that they bombed Germany in an act of terrorism. The attack was carried out by the US Airforce and US Navy.

A test had been scheduled to be run that would test the power required for the generators. At this point, the reactor was running with normal power and working fine. The operators began making slight power changes, lowering the energy used to run the test that they had no idea, would fail. -
2:00 pm
The generator’s power should have been reduced to 30% but there was an apparent need for emergency power somewhere else, so it remained at 50% for 9 additional hours. This did not follow the test procedures and caused potential damage to the reactors. The Soviet electricity authorities paused the test and the generator used more power than it needed to. -
Unit 4 Destroyed
Unit 4's reactor was destroyed during the Chernobyl Accident. In1986 after the Chernobyl explosion the reactor was like a time bomb and it finally exploded a couple minutes after Chernobyl. -

The operators got permission to resume the test, however, instead of keeping the generator at 30%, he hit a switch that plummeted the energy to 1% because water was filling the core of the generator. The element xenon was building up in the reactor and there wasn’t enough power for the test. The water was overheated and turned into steam, enabling the turbines to work. -

The operator forced the reactor up to 7% power by removing all but 6 of the control rods. The reactor was not built to handle the low power levels and it was unstable with the amount of water it was containing. -
1:23:40 am
Power in the reactor began to gradually rise because of the reduced water flow caused by the turbine shutdown. An increase in boiling occurred and the operator initiated manual shut down. This lead to a fast power increase due to the control rod design. This was the exact second that the worker pushed the button, starting the test. 4 seconds later was the explosion. -

The reactor reached 120 times its full power. The radioactive fuel disintegrated and excess steam pressure broke every pressure tube on its way to the turbines and it blew off the entire top shield of the reactor. -

Fire Burns at Chernobyl
The Chernobyl Explosion caused a major fiire that lasted 10 days. Every time they put out the fire a new one would keep popping up because it was very dry and smokey everywhere. -
Town Evacuated
http://goo.gl/pOIyl
On this day, the entire town of Pripyat, Ukraine (11 miles from Chernobyl) was evacuated completely. The radiation was circulating through the air and was a huge threat to everyone in or around the town. Radiation is extremely dangerous and can cause major illnesses on humans and other organisms. -
Fire Stops
On the 6th of May, 10 days after the fire started, the fire was finally put out. 32 people died total in the accident and in the efforts to put out the fire. 38 more people died of radiation sicknesses in the following months. To put the fire out, extensive methods of dropping sand and boron were dumped on the reactor from the air to keep it from spreading. -
Unit 2 is closed
After five years Unit 2 was shut down, after a serious turbine building fire. All the units have two twin independent turbogenerators, and the operators reduced unit 2 power and isolated the steam supply.

Unit 1 is closed
Unit 1 closed because it started showing signs that resembled Chernobyl. Unit 1 closed 10 years and 7 months after Chernobyl exploded. Unit 1 was the second unit to close after the Chernobyl Power Plant exploded.

Unit 3 closed
Since The Chernobyl nuclear explosion many nuclear power plants have been closing due to fear that what happened to Chernobyl will happen again to all the different units. Unit 3 closed11 years and 8 months after the Chernobyl disaster. Each unit closed because since Chernobyl was out of the blue they fear that if they run tests on the plants thenanother
accident will happen.
