University of Georgia founded
The University of Georgia was founded on January 27, 1785 in the city of Athens, GA. The University of Georgia was the first University to be established by a state government. -
Eli Whitney and the Cotton Gin
Eli Whitney was the inventor that created the Cotton Gin. The Cotton Gin was a machine that allowed the production of cotton to greatly increase in speed. -

Worcester v. Georgia was a court case between the Cherokee Indians and the Georgia Government. The court ruled that individual states had no authority on american Indian Affairs. -

The Trail of Tears was when the Cherokee were forced to move fromtheir land in Mississippi into current day Oklahoma. The Cherokee had to move from their land because of Andrew Jackson's Indian removal policy. -
Compromise of 1850
The compromise of 1850 is when 5 seperate billed passed by the United States Congress stopped a four year political confrontation between states that allow slavery and states that don't regarding the territoy gained after the Mexican American War. -
Georgia Platform
This was a statement executed by a Georgia Convention in response to the Compromise of 1850. Declared that the North could no longer attack the rights of the Southern states and affirmed acceptance of the Compromise. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
This was an act passed by Congress which allowed Kansas and Nebraska to choose whether they wanted slavery to be legal or not. -
Dred Scott Case
The Dred Scott Case was a court case in which the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Dred Scott was not entitled to freedom even though he lived in a slavery free state. They also stated that African Americans would never be citizens of the United States. -

This is the election in which Abraham Lincoln defeated John C. Breckinridge. The results of the election led to the end of slavery. -

The Emancipation Proclamation was proclamation and executive order issued by Abraham Lincoln. The Emancipation Proclamation freed around 500,000 slaves. -

The Battle of Gettysburg was fought from July 1-3, 1863. The Battle was between General Robert E. Lee's army and General George G. Meade's army. -

The Battle of Chickamauga lasted from September 18–20, 1863. This battle also marked the end of Union offensive in Tennessee. -

Sherman's March to the Sea
Sherman's March to the Sea more commonly known as the Savannah Campaign was a military campaign that was conducted throughout Georgia. This lasted from November 15 to December 21. There were about 60,000 soldiers led by Union General William T. Sherman on a 285 mile march from Atlanta to Savannah. -
KKK Founded
The Klu Klux Klan more commonly reffered to as the KKK was founded by 6 Confederate veterans from Pulaski, Tennessee. The KKK members were usually either white supremacists, white nationalists, and anti-immigration. -
Freedmen's Bureau
The Freedmen's Bureau were a United States federal government agency created in 1865 to aid freed slaves. The Freedmen's Bureau was created by Abraham Lincoln and was only intended to last a year after the Civil War. The group was disbanded in 1871. -
Thirteenth Amendment
The Thirteenth Amendment abolished Slavery. This Amendment made it so no more states would be able to own slaves. -
Henry McNeal Turner
Henry McNeal Turner was born in 1834 in Newberry Courthouse, South Carolina. His parents were Sarah Greer and Hardy Turner. He was a pioneering church organizer and missionary for the African Methodist Episcopal Church in Georgia.
