Treaty of Versailles
The germans broke the Treaty of Versailles becasuse they thought it was unfair and Hitler ripped it in front of a big group giving a speech. Germany thought it was unfair becasue Germany would have to pay $30 billion in war damages, some territory would be taken away from Germany, and the map of Europe would be redrawn. Also Germnay had to have a smaller army and only six naval ships. Germany didn't find the Treaty of Versailles fair so they broke it and this lead to war. -
Germany's Economic Depression
In the depression about 5 million German's were unemployed. Many blamed the Weimar Republic. Most of this began in the States where the US government was providing loans to Germany before the depression so Germany could get back on its feet. So when Germany's economy crashed they couldn't pay back these loans because no one was working. When Germany tried to print more money it was de-valued because they printed too much. -
The Rise of Adolf Hitler
Soon after Adolf Hitler came into power he secretly started talking about building up Germany's army and weapons. Although Britain and France knew about Hitler's actions they did not do anything becasue they were concerned about the Rise of Communism. Even though Hitler had build up his army, it was still very weak and could easily be defeated. Hitler coming into power lead to WW2 because when he became the chancellor he broke most of the promises he kept and started wars with other countrys. -
Appeasment
Appeasment was when Hitler ordered Germna troops into Rhineland which would go against the Treaty of Versailles. The western leaders did nothing but wanted to appease German. Hitler thought he could do whatever he wanted becasue no one was stopping him. So Hitler continued to invade other countries. But then finally the West took action against Germany. -
Germany's Invasion of Poland
On this day Germnay invaded Poland. Britain and France had a alliance with Poland. It stated that if Poland was invaded, Britain and France would have to intervene. But neither Britain or France wanted to go to war so they gave a ultimatum to Germany. It said withdraw from Poland or go to war. But Germany declined this ultimatum and Britain and France declared war on Germany.
