Charles Darwin February 12th, 1809-April 19th 1882

  • Charles Darwin-The Beginning

Charles Darwin was a naturalist philosopher that paved the way for science when it came to evolutionary studies. In 1825, he attended Edinburgh University to study medicine, but he discovered this wasn't his interest. He discovered he had a passion for studying living creatures, especially sea life and mammals. Evidently, Darwin only was interested in the studying of chemistry while he was attending school for medicine. He was more interested in the study of Zoology.
  • University of Cambridge and The Beagle

Darwin attended the University of Cambridge. Darwin then parted on a 5 year voyage aboard The Beagle. He studied geology of the land when they were stopped. He recorded his thoughts and theories. Darwin even experienced an earthquake firsthand while he was on his journey, and make speculations of what those meant and what they did. He even studied bugs, specifically beetles, and dissected them to further speculate on the wonders of the tiny little machines of life that worked so perfectly.
  • Charles Darwin- First Speech

Darwin used his observations and gathered thoughts from his voyage to comprise and present a speech on his concept of the rising of the South American landmass. Darwin also presented some findings from studying different types of birds, concluding that there were different species. In his speech, Darwin concluded that land was changing and evolving. He stated that the animals inhabiting the land evolved along with it. Historians say this was the beginning of his theories of evolution.
  • Charles Darwin and Evolution

In 1858, Darwin went public on his controversial views of evolution and human beings. According to World History Project, many people were shocked and stunned- but also excited. These views were the first of their kind- no other scientist or philosopher have ever (publicly) expressed this theory as their belief of explanation. Darwin also touched on the infamous idea of "natural selection", which of course, added to the shock factor.
  • "The Descent of Man"

This book was published in 1871. This was Darwin's book on his evolutionary theory. Darwin references human sex regarding the different natural roles of men and women, human psychology, different human races, all the relationship of these factors to a functioning society. This book came after his successful publishing of "Origin of Species" which was his breakthrough writings of his theories.
  • Cambridge University to Death

Charles Darwin received many awards in his lifetime for his massive contribution to the world of science. He also earned many titles. In 1877 Charles Darwin earned his Honorary Doctorate of Law from Cambridge University. This was apparently one of the most proud moments of his entire life. Darwin passed away in 1882. There are some speculations around the circumstances of his death, but it is suggested he died from a disease contracted from a bug bite.
