    Charles Robert Darwin was born on February 12, 1809, in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England.

  • The Voyage of the Beagle 1831 – 1836

    Darwin was offered a position as a naturalist on HMS Beagle, one of the British Royal Navy’s survey ships. Darwin showed specimens of birds he had recorded on the Galapagos Islands. Within a week, ornithologist John Gould studied the specimens and declared that 12 new finch species and a new finch population had been discovered by Darwin.

    Darwin believed that altruistic behavior is preferred through selection. The survival and success of a social group heavily relied on the members' ability to connect. Through encouraging the group's survival and growth, this benefits the group's individuals' fitness indirectly.

    Insectivorous plants is published
    Darwin recognized that a plant secretes a fluid that closely relates to an animal's digestive fluid.
