The voyage
Charles set sail on the HMS Beagle from England bound for the southern tip of South Africa. He sailed to accompany Robert Fitzroy, who planned on surveying Patagonia, and helping with British Trade. -
Fighting off the Rebels
Charles joined a group of armed sailors in Uruguay to retake a taken fort. While in the jungles of South America started to see that underneath many civil societies that genocide seemed to be the ruling force. -
Meeting the Locals
Charles met locals in Tierra el Fuego. During his time he compared the relationship between the locals and more civilized society to that of wild and domesticated animals. -
Finally Home
in October of 1836 Charles returned home with over 700 pages in a diary, 1200 pages of notes and over 5,000 animal carcass and bones. -
Ending his theory
In 1839 Charles had for the most part finished his theory on evolution but needed to keep quiet on his views for fear of becoming a social outcast. -
Evolution Sketchbook
Charles drafted a 35 page sketchbook on his theory of natural selection. -
Expanding the sketchbook
in 1844 Charles expanded his sketchbook on natural selection. He did not publish this book but told his wife if he were to die that she should get it published. -
Publishing his Book
His book titled "On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life" was published and not very well received by the scientific community. -
Autobiography
in 1876 Charles started writing an autobiography, more for his grandchildren then publication. IT talked a lot about his dislike for Christianity. -
Death
Charles died in London, England and is buried at Westminster Abbey.
