Education
Darwin was sent by his father in 1825 to study medicine at Edinburgh University where he came to the realization that he hated anatomy and was disgusted by surgeries. He later transferred to Christ's College, Cambridge, in 1828 after two years at Edinburgh. -
Voyage of the H.M.S. Beagle
Charles Darwin voyaged on the HMS Beagle and being a gentleman naturalist he could leave the ship for extended amounts of time. He only spent 18 months of the 5 year journey aboard the ship. He would explore a great deal of south America and have experiences like finding fossils and bones of prehistoric animals to volcanic eruptions. He would also travel to the Galapagos islands where he encountered animals of the same species with different characteristics to them sparking his evolution theory. -
Returning Home
Darwin finally arrived back in England after his 5 year journey in 1836. He had written a journal while aboard the Beagle and among his various adventures, and when he returned home he had it published which would lead to him becoming very well-known. -
Darwin Formulates His Theory of Evolution
Beginning in 1837 Charles Darwin began formulating his theory of evolution by natural selection in private after returning home from his voyage aboard the H.M.S. Beagle. Natural selection is loosely defined as variations in genes that increase the chances of survival and procreation of an organism over generations at the expense of less advantageous organisms. Darwin Completes His Theory

"On the Origins of Species" is published
After publishing and selling his book Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection was made public to the world. It was a theory that brought much debate but also brought important scientific findings and brought us closer to understanding where life as we know it had come from. -
Copley Medal
Darwin received the Copley Medal from the Royal Society for his researches in zoology, geology, and botanical physiology. Other awards he received include the Royal Medal and the Wollaston medal for his contributions to the natural knowledge and geology. -
Charles Darwin's Death
Charles Darwin died in Downe, United Kingdom in the down house due to heart failure.
