Published Structure and distribution of Coral Reefs
At a time when their was an increasing interest in how exactly coral was formed, Darwin described his theory in this publication, as well as how he believed atolls were formed. Darwin suggested that all living species come from one common ancestor. Variations in species come from the characteristics that are most beneficial for the livelihood of that animal. The Descent of Man is published

He went so far as to say humans are descendants of apes. This book describes how humans came to evolve. The differences between man and animals is due to many of the characteristics of animals becoming useless to humans overtime. -
The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals is published
In this book, Darwin refuted the beliefs of Charles Bell that animals and man have different expressions of emotion, stating that they are actually very similar. For example, both purse their lips while concentrating. By giving examples of similar expressions, Darwin furthered his argument that men and animals come from common ancestors.
