Charles Darwin Is Born
On April 4th, 1809 Charles Robert Darwin was born. He was the 5th child of his parents Robert Darwin and Susannah Darwin. He would later become a famous Naturalist and would create the Theory of Natural Selection (World Books Biographical Encyclepedia of Scientists 140-141) -
Beethoven writes "Fur Elise" in 1810
In 1810 Ludwig van Beethoven came out with one of the most famous classical music pieces. It was called Fur Elise. He wrote it on April 27th, 1810 but it did not get published till after Beethoven was dead in 1867. In that time period the original copy of Fur Elise had been lost but the copy had been published. When it was first written in 1810 Charles Darwin was only 1 years old. (Beethoven Composes Fur Elise). -
War of 1812 Begins
On June 18th, 1812 a war had begun against Great Britain and the United States. It had begun over Great Britain restricting the United States maritime rights. The British had impressed sailors and this infuriated the people in the United States. The acted by wanting war which eventually happened. The war of 1812 ended with a draw. They both lost battles and won battles but there is no victor (David S Heidler). -
Star Spangled Banner written at the Battle of Fort McHenry
During the Battle of Fort McHenry, Francis Scott Key was being held on a British ship. On September 13th the British had begun a 25 hour bombardment on Fort McHenry. Francis Scott Key had witnessed it from a British ship. When the bombardment was over at dawn of September 14th and Francis Scott Key still the the flag of The United States, he was inspired to write a poem. That poem would later become our national anthem (The Lyrics). -
Charles Darwin Attends Cambridge University
In the winter of 1828 Darwin decided to study at Cambridge University. He went there with hi brother Erasmus. At first he did not take his study's seriously. Over time he did. During spring he could see a natural science career in his future(Charles Darwin). -
Darwin Leaves for 5 Year Journey
In December of 1831 Charles Darwin had left on a 5 year journey. He would travel on the HMS Beagle to get to many places in the world. He would travel to the Galapagos islands where he would make the theory of Natural Selection during the journey(Clark, Ronald Walter 2 ). -
Darwin Visits Galapagos Islands
When Charles Darwin was on board the HMS Beagle during his 5 year journey, they had stopped at the Galapagos Islands. This is where Darwin stopped to do research about Natural Selection. During this trip e would propose the Theory of NAtural Selection but it would not get published till 1859(Charles Darwin In the Galopogos). -
Darwin Returns from His 5 year journey on the HMS Beagle.
After spending 5 years exploring the world on the HMS Beagle their journey had come to an end. They got back from their journey in October of 1836. This Journey had become really important. Darwin had left for research because he was a natural scientist. He had left as the person who discovered the theory of natural selection(World Books Encyclopedia of Scientists 141). -
Texas Declares Independence from Mexico
Texas declared independence from Mexico. After hard fought battles and the struggles of the American Texans,they were defeated. Outnumbered by the Mexican army, all the Texan troops were killed. The Mexicans had taken the Alamo. 6 weeks later there was another conflict between the Texans and the Mexicans. This time they fought for the Alamo and won the battle. Mexico was forced to recognize the Texans Independence and that is when Texas was now independent( Texas Declares Independence). -
Darwin Marries his Cousin
On November 11th, 1838 Charles Darwin wrote The Day Of Days after he had proposed to his first cousin Emma Wedgewood. They got married on January 29th, 1839. Darwin had written notes about the pros and cons of this marriage months proceeding their engagement. Darwin and Emma would end up having 10 children, 3 of them would die before age 10 ( Darwin on Marriage). -
Darwin Publishes Theory of Coral Reef Atoll Formation
In 1842 Charles Darwin had made a theory about Coral Reefs. On his trip on the HMS Beagle, Darwin knew that coal reefs needed a book of there own. Darwin had already drafted his theory in 1835. He believed that they formed from a gradual series from fringing reefs. Coral Reefs were a subject of lively debate in the 1830's and was one of the objectives on board the HMS Beagle. Even though his draft was out in 1835 Darwin did not publish it till 1842( Introduction to Coral Reefs). -
Vincent Van Gogh Was Born
On March 30th, 1853 Vincent Van Gogh was born. He would grow up to be one of the best painters ever and one of the most influencing too. Van Gogh would create about 2,100 pieces of art before his death on July 29th, 1890. Most oil paintings and other happened in the last 2 years of his life( Vincent Van Gogh). -
Charles Darwin Publishes Theory of Natural selection
After waiting a long time since writing the draft on the theory, Darwin had finally published the Theory of Natural Selection in 1859. This theory is one of the most important things that he accomplished. During his 5 year journey in the HMS Beagle Darwin had researched on the Galapagos Islands to prove his theory. He researched for countless hours. after he got back from the journey he had to draft u the theory and prove it (Karp, Walter 12) -
Charles Darwin's "Descent of Man" was Published
This book was Charles Darwin's second great book on the theory of evolution. In the book "Decent of Man" it applies the theory of human evolution. It also applies his theory of sexual selection. The two book series was first published in 1871 ( Charles Darwin’s “Decent if Man”). -
Statue of Liberty Starts to get built
In 1875 the French had started to build the Statue of Liberty for the United States. In a public meeting group, members had decided to give something to the young republic of the United States as the anniversary of the abolition of slavery. They also wanted to increase the Franco-United States Relationship. Construction started in 1875 and it was not till 1886 when the United States received the Statue (Landmarks). -
Charles Darwin Dies
After living his life from 1809-1882 Charles Darwin had died. He was 73 years old when he passed. Darwin was one of the most famous scientists ever. He made the Theory of Natural selection, which was his most famous theory. But he also made more books and theories that were important to. Darwin had a heart disease that would kill him on April 19th, 1882( World Book Encyclopedic of Scientists 140).
