Introduction to Charles Darwin
Charles Robert Darwin, born February 12, 1809 in Shropshire, England. Was the second son of society doctor Robert Waring Darwin and Susannah Wedgwood, daughter of the Unitarian pottery industrialist Josiah Wedgwood. Charles Darwin died April 19th, 1992, in Downe, Kent. Charles Darwin Voyage of the HMS Beagle
Charles Darwin went on a circumnavigation of the globe when he was just 22 years old. It was five years of physical hardship that would help in giving Darwin a new "seriousness". On the last leg of the voyage, Darwin finished his 770-page diary, had 1,750 pages of notes, drew up 12 catalogs of his 5,436 skins, bones, and carcasses. -
Theory of Evolution
Charles Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection was and is the foundation upon which today's modern evolutionary theory is built. His theory was outlined in Darwin's seminal work "On the Origin of Species" which was published in 1859. -
Three Components to Theory of Evolution
Charles Darwin's theory of evolution has 3 main components to it: variation occurred randomly among members of a species; that an individuals traits could be inherited by its progeny; and that the struggle for existence would allow only those with favorable traits to survive. -

Charles Darwin formulated his theory in private around 1837-1839 after returning from a voyage around the world. However, it as not until 2 decades later that he finally gave it full public expression in, "On the Origin of Species". -
