  • Birthdate/hometown

    Born in Shrewsbury, England.
  • Period: to

    College Years

Darwin was admitted to Christ's College on 15th October 1827 , gaining his BA in 1831, his MA in 1836 and an honorary doctorate in 1877.
  • Period: to

    HMS Beagle voyage

Darwin boarded a ship that displayed his skills as a naturalist. He boarded a British Royal Navy ship known as the "HMS Beagle". The main focus of the ship was to survey the coastlines in South America and to explore the regions. Darwin exceeded expectations and collection samples of plants, animals and minerals. He then packed all of his researched items and shipped back to England to do further research.
  • Discoveries

Darwin furthered his research in the samples he discovered on his voyage which led to scientific discoveries. He sent his fossils to Paleontologists and Geologist and led to advancements leading to the process of the earths shape. The analysis of the plants and animals led to the question of how species form and change, he then thought of the theory "Natural Selection".
  • Natural Selection

This theory concluded that individuals of the species that are more likely to survive and pass on the genes to the next generation and inherit their traits to become more adaptable to the environment which can lead to new species.
  • On the Origin of Species

Darwin published his findings about evolution and natural selection in his book known as "On the Origin of Species". This book caused many controversies, many people were convinced about species changing over time which led to the assumption that the world is older than it was believed.
  • Death date

Charles Darwin was known for this theory of Natural Selection, also being known for the "Father of Evolution". He passed away in 1882, at the age of seventy-three. He was currently buried in Westminster Abbey in London, England.
  • Contribution to the Philosophy of Science

Charles Darwin created more discussions debating if his theory of Natural Selection was indeed true. In his book, "On the Origin of Species" it created a Paradigm Shift from creation to evolution and that we are a part of nature, and all life such as animals are descendants of a common ancestor.
