A voyage that lasted five years
Charles Darwin went on a five year voyage around the world on the HMS Beagle. On this voyage Darwin studied plants, animals, fossils and geological formations. On this voyage he discovered giant fossils of extinct animals. This voyage gave him hands-on research. The Pacific Island and the Galapagos Archipelago were Darwin's particular points of interest. -
The solved mystery's of coral reefs
During Charles Darwin's voyage, not only did he come up with the theory of evolution but he also discovered the structures of coral reefs. Darwin found sea shells over forty feet above sea level. At the time the way coral reefs formed was still unknown. Darwin theorized that many coral reefs could be explained by the uplift of vast areas of Earth's crust under the oceans. The theory of evolution
After traveling around the globe, Darwin conceived the theory of evolution. The theory of evolution stated that species survived through the process of "natural selection", were those who successfully adapted or evolved met the changing requirements of their natural habitat thrived, and those that failed to evolve or reproduce died off. This theory then became known as "Darwinism." -
Origin of Species
Charles Darwin wrote a book called the Origin of Species. This book talked about how populations evolved over the course of generations through natural selection. The book also presented evidence that he gathered through out the years that showed diversity of life by common descent through a pattern of evolution. This book was Darwin's greatest work and influenced modern Western society and thought.
