The republicans seeming unity was shattered by the elction of 1824, which Andrew Jacksn lost as a result of what he believed was a corrupt bargain between John Quincy Adams and Henry Clay. Jackson won the presidency in the election of 1828 by rallying souther and western voters with his appeal to the common man.His elections opens a new era in national politics.
