    Western farmers violently protested the tax on whiskey.
  • Jay's Treaty

    Britain gave up control of it's U.S. ports and paid for seized ships.
  • Election of 1796

    Federalist John Adams becomes president and Thomas Jefferson becomes vice president.
  • XYZ Affair

    French seize American ships and demand a bribe for neogotiation.
  • Alien and Sedition Acts

    4 laws intended to suppress dissent and prevent further growth of the Republic faction.
  • 1801

    Thomas Jefferson becomes president.
