Proclamation of 1763
Issued by King George and declared that all lands west of the Appalachians were indian reserves. -
Stamp Act
Placed a tax on a wide variety of legal documents and printed materials such as marriage licences, paper, ect,, The people revolted and boycotted against it eventually having it be repealed. -
Townshend Act
This act included a new set of duties of such items as cloth, lead, glass, paper, and tea. The people tried to smuggle so they did not have to pay the taxes, so to prevent it, officers were granted with writs of assistance. -
Boston Tea Party
People from the Sons of Liberty dressed as indians, boarded three ships, and threw 342 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor -
Intolerable Acts
Parliment passed four coercive acts intended to punish Massachsuttes and make and example of them. -
Battles of Lexington and Concord
The British soldiers attacked seventy minutemen at Lexington and killed eight. The minutemen retreated and the British moved on to Concord where the minutemen were waiting for them. They suprised the red coats and won the battle. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
This Battle was the first formal battle of the revolution. There were 1000 British casuliities but they still won the battle because the Americans ran out of ammunition and were forced to retreat. -
Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson and statied that the colonies had a right to separate, reasons why they wanted to separate, and that they were going to be independent from Britian and the KIng. -
Winter at Valley Forge
Washington and his troops camped at Valley Forge during the winter and many of the men died from lack of supplies, the coldness, and disease. A man formerly apart of the Prussian army, Baron Von Steuben, taught the men how to fight and made the American army stronger and better. -
Battle of Yorktown
American and French soldiers, nder George Washingtons command, trapped Cornwallis and his troops. After five weeks, he surrendured which ended the revolutionary war. -
Battle of Saratoga
In New York, Burgoyne suffered from American attacks and surrendured his army of 6,000 men. There were two battles several weeks apart, and these battles seemed to be the turning point for the revolutionary war. -
Independence Gained
The Treaty of Paris was signed and the British finally recgonized American independence. They also ceded their right to all the lannds east of the Mississippi, from the Great Lakes to the northern boundary of Florida.
