    In the late 1800's Prussia lead the fight for unification of its states. In 1815 Congress of Vienna gave Prussia a part of the German Confederation. This gave prussia the power to absorbe crusial regions to its economy. Allowing it to grow as a powerful, yet seperated nation.

    Otto Von Bismarck was appointed the head Prussian cabinet a year after William I became king of Prussia. With his opposition to democracy and the powerful army he had sculpted, no one seemed to stand up to him when he wanted to expand.

    Prussia and Austria protested the new Danish constitution, which attempted to annex Schleswig. Prussia and Austria also wanted to gain control of the two duchies of Schleswig and Holstein. When Denmark refused to revoke the new constitution, Prussia and Austria declared war on Denmark. After 3 months of fighting, Denmark surrendered. Prussia and Austria gained control of Schleswig and Holstein. After some conflict Prussia had control of Schleswig, and Prussia with Holstein, for now.

    An ongoing Schleswig-Holstein ownership dispute had Prussia and Austria declare war on each other. Thanks to their advance in technology Prussia defeated Austria. The German Confederation faded away when Prussia formed the North German Confederation with several other north German states. Prussia dominated the legislature of the Confederation.

    Bismarck wanting to unite the southern states of Germany to the North German Confederation, sabotaged a telegram from Prussian king William to the French ambassaror. Enraged the French declared war on Prussia. The southern states of Germany and the North German Confederation did unite against the french. Prussia soon defeated the French and gained some french land.

    Germany declared unification the empire that included all of the german states except Austria. William I became the kaiser of the German empire and Bismarck the chancellor. However, Bismarck did not like constitution, he decided to accept one that united the 25 states into a federal government.
