Magna Carta
This document was affixed by seal by King John. This consented the barrons demands in order to avert civil war. -
Petition of Right
Document that sets out specific liberties. The document states the the king is prohibited from infringing. -
English Bill of Rights
This document limited the power of the English sovereign. It inserted that Englishmen had certain civil and political rights. -
Boston Massacre
This was a street fight that occured between a "patriot" mob thowing almost anything they could at a group of British soldiers. This riot began when citizens attacked a British sintinel. -
Boston Tea Party
A group of colonists protested 13 years worth of British oppression. They attacked British ships and threw the tea into the Boston harbor. -
First Contintental Congress
The meeting of delegates from 12 of the 13 colonies. They met in Carpenter's Hall to discuss the "intolerable acts" by the Colonial Americans. -
Second Continental Congress
The convention at which delgates of the 13 colonies met in the summer of 1775 in Pennsylvania.This occured began soon after the American Revolutionary war had began. -
Declaration of Independence
Drafted by Thomas Jefferson, the document written to summarize the rights and truths held by the American people. It granted the people rights and set forth guidelines to follow in the future. -
Articles of Confederation
This document served as the United States' first Constitution. In was in place from March 1, 1781 until 1789 when the present day Constitution went into effect. -
New Jersey Plan
This was a proposal for the structure of the US government. This was presented by William Patterson at the Constitutional Convention.
