Theory of Relativity created
Albert Einstein came up with the theory that while the speed of light is constant, things such as time and space are not constant. He came up with this theory after scientists had discovered that light always travels at exactly the same speed. HIs theory replaced Isaac Newton's belief of a world operating according to the laws of motion and gravity. -
The first of the new governments was formed in Russia
After the end of World War I new democracies formed all over the European countries. The very first new government was formed in Russia. It was called The Provisional Government and its goal was to establish constitutional and democratic rule. -
Weimar Republic is Established in Germany
Germany's new democratic government was known as the Weimer Republic. It was named after the city where the national assembly had met at. The new republic had many serious issues from the start. One issue was that many Germans blamed the government for the country's defeat in the war. -

In 1921 Albert Einstein recieved the Nobel Prize in the feild of physics. He made many contributions in the feilds of science and math. His theory of relativity is what earned him a nobel prize. His theories changed how people viewed the world. -
Kellogg-Briand peace pact is signed
In 1928 the United States Secretary of State created an agreement with France. Amost every single country in the world signed the peace treaty. There was no one to enforce the agreement from the treaty but it still was a start for peace among different nations. -
HItler is named German Chancellor
At first Adolf Hitler was just a small political leader. He had volunteered for the German army and was awarded a medal for his bravery twice. He joined a political group called the Nazis. They became a huge politiical party and Hitler received recognition and was asked to be German chancellor. -
Spanish Civil War begins
Francisco Franco was an army general who led a revolt in Spain. Army leaders that favored a fascist-style government had joined him. The government had chaged into a Republic and many people of Spain did not agree with this. A civil war broke out and lasted three years. -
Germany and Soviet Union sign nonaggression pact
Joseph Stalin of Russia reached an agreement with Adolf Hitler of Germany. They each signed a nonaggression pact. This vowed that they will be at peace with one another and not attack each other's country. -
Germany invades Poland; France and Great Britain declare war on Germany
Adolf Hitler led a surprise attack on Poland. He wanted to conquer the country. He succeeded in gaining the western half of Poland. France and Great Britain eclared war on Germany shortly after the invasion. -
France surrenders to Germany; Battle of Britain begins
After Germany had taken control of Paris French leaders had surrendered. The Germans took control of the northern part of the country. Great Britain stood alone against the Nazis. Many bombing incidents against Britain was known as the Battle of Britain. -
Germans invade Soviet Union
The Soviet Union was not prepared for the invasion by the Germans. Even though they had the largest army they were not well trained or well equipt. The invasion lasted weeks. As the temperatures got lower, the Germans retreated not being able to withstand the cold. -
Allies invade North Africa
London sent General Bernard Montgomery and his troops to take control of British forces in North Africa. He met up with them and decided to attack the Germans head on. Rommel's army had been defeated. -
Germans surrender at Stalingrad
The city of Stalingrad had been bombed and made into rubble. Joseph Stalin told his soldiers to defend the city that had been named after him with their lives. Another Russian winter had occurred and the Germans surrendered yet again. -
D-Day invasion takes place
General Dwight D. Eisenhower was the commander of thousands of planes, ships, and tanks to launch their attack on Germany. The Germans already knew that this attack was coming for them but they did not know where from. -
Germany surrenders
The Soviet Union had surrounded Berlin. Adolf Hitler and his wife Eva Braun commited suicide in an underground headquarters under Berlin. The German army had surrendered from being surrounded and not having anywhere else to go.
