War of Jenkins' Ear (1739-1742)
The War of Jenkin's ear was between the Spanish and British over land between South Carolina and Florida due to Robert Jenkins' raiding Spanish ships in Panama. This was was fought on Florida-Georgia borders and at sea. This was one of several battles over American land between the British and other nations.

King George's War (1744-1748)
In King George's War, Britain took Nova Scotia from France. This war was fought in the northern colonies, New Spain, and the Carribean. Britain gave the fortress back three years later with the Treaty Aix-la-Chapelle. Britain continues to battle over American territory.

The French and Indian War (1754-1763)
This war was between the Britain and France. There were claims by both over Pennsylvania land and Ohio company territory as well as the French wanting to protect Fort Duquesne. This war was fought on the frontier from Virginia to Maine. After many losses, the British win and the Treaty of Paris is implemented. Britain is now in control of America.

The Stamp Act (1765)
The Stamp Act was implemented by Britain on the colonies to pay back war debt. Anything bought printed on paper required a stamp to be purchased. This act outraged the colonists and led to rebellion. At this time, rebellion and war shifts.

The Boston Massacre (1770)
The Boston Massacre was American colonists rebelling against British troops. This rebellion was a result of Britain trying to control the colonies and trying to prevent the Sons of Liberty from taking any action for freedom. The British fired and the battle became deadly. This confirms even more to the American colonists Britain wants to control them.

The Battle of Lexington and Concord (1774-1775)
The Battle of Lexington and Concord was between the British and minutemen of the colonies. The British tried to sneak into Concord and take all the weapons and ammunition but the minutemen knew they were coming, and the British were ambushed. This is when war truly began between America and Britain.

The Declaration of Independence (1776)
After many battles and pushing Britain out of America, The Declaration of Independence, mostly written by Thomas Jefferson, was formed. This document declared America as a republic and officially breaking any ties to Britain.

The Treaty of Paris (1783)
After many battles and continuous attacks from Britain, Britain finally decided no more attacks and began peace negotiations. This is the Treaty of Paris which recognized America as independent. This laid out the boundaries of American land and asked for states to not persecute loyalists.

Embargo Act of 1807
This act was enacted due to an incident of a British war ship firing on a U.S. naval ship off the coast of Virginia. Four sailors were seized. The Embargo Act of 1807 prevented American ships from leaving their ports until Britain and France stopped attacking. It also was meant to hurt them by cutting off trade.

The War of 1812
With the British and America having unresolved problems, the British supporting Indian resistance, and seizing American ships and their sailors, the War of 1812 began. This was the second war for independence of America. It was a hard fight just as the other battles previously endured. However, America did not give up and Britain backed down in the end.
