    Invention of the Radio
    In 1895 the radio was invented by an Italian named Gugliemo Marconi. To do this, he used radio waves and transmitted Morse Code. The radio because a big thing in the 1920s as sales tripled comapred to the previous years and by the 1930s, most houses in the US and Europe had a radio. There were over 500 radio staion which featured a range of different genres such as music, sport and news. In the evenings, family would gather round the radio in the living room to listen to different shows.

    RCA Tape Cartridge
    The RCA tape cartridge was released in 1958 and was a magnetic tape. It had stereo quarter-inch reel-to-reel tape recording quality in a suitable format. The magnetic tape meant that you didn't have to wind up the thread for it to be plahyed again, just like older cassette tapes. Also this tape offered 60 minutes of high-quality at home listening.
  • Compact Disc

    Compact Disc
    A big change with the comapct disc was that it can be read through the use of lasers, where the laser would bounce off the disc creating reflections which could be read through a sensor. Previously a magnetic tape had to be read mechancially. A compact disc could offer high sound quality and it opened a lot of doors for what device could be released next. Also it lets artists to release music on a disc with more storage capacity than a cassette. The capacity is 80mins of audio.

    Sony Walkman
    The Sony Walkman which was released in 1979 was the world's first low-cost portable stereo. It featured stereo playback, two headphone sockets which allowed two people to listen at the same time and a button which activated a built-in microphone and allowed someone to talk to another walkman. The Walkman ran off AA batteries which could need to be changed. Also there was an option for it to run off mains power. Also until 2014, over 400 million Walkman were sold.

    MTV
    MTV stands for 'Music Television' and first focused on music videos to help promote artists which was intoduced by TV personalities (TV Jockeys). The music videso were primarily a rock genre and also the classical genre. In 1983, Michael Jackson's song 'Billie Jean' was premiered which broke the colour barrier for black people. This gained a lot of worlwide recognition for Michael Jackson.

    iPod
    The first iPod by Apple was released in 2001. This lets users download songs on their computer and transfer them onto their iPod. The main attraction with this iPod was that it had a storage size of 5GB and could hold up to 1000 songs. Also the device was portable and small. However it wasn't cheap compared to other devices at the time. These products continued to grow and outperform all other mp3 devices for storing music, and now accessing the internet. And today we have the iPod Touch.

    YouTube is a video sharing website where anyone can upload any video they wish, following the YouTube video policy. Since its release in 2005, YouTube has the world's most popular online video site. It can allow small artists as well as big artists to upload theri music and music videos for people to easily view and share in a high definition quality. An artist such as Justin Beiber started in the music industry by posting videos of himself singing on YouTube. This has led to worldwide fame

    Spotify
    Spotify is used for music straing on devices such as PlayStation, Xbox, iOS, Android, Windows and Mac. In June 2015, there were more than 75 million active users and 20 million of those had paid for the scription basis. Music can be easily found by searching for an artist, album, genre, playlist, or record label. Also you can upgrade your membershp which removes adverts, allows users to listen to music offline and improves audio quality.

    The world's first MP3 player released was the 'MPMan F10' released in 1998. The size of it was 91x70x165.5mm and overall had 32MB of Flash storage. This was enought for rougly 8 songs only. Also there was a small screen on the front so you could tell what time the song was on and whether it was playing or stopped. This device cost US $250 which is quite expensive for what you get today, 17 years later.

    Vimeo
    Vimeo has the same concept as YouTube, where people can upload and share videos. It was released in 2004 and became the first website to allow 720p high definition playback. In 2013, it attracted over 100 mill people a month and more than 22 million registered users. A free subscription lets you uplaod 5MB a week which is not a lot at all for high-def. For £49.95 a month this increases to 5GB a week. This website is no different to YouTuber apart from that you have to pay which is a downside.
